At last the site of the well is established. The undergrowth on the approach from the path has been cleared, allowing some light and air to penetrate. (the robins are having a feast on all the little creatures in the silt) The first step down into the well chamber can now be seen and we shall continue to clear this very carefully over the coming weeks until we have the full measure of the area. It will be important to ensure that no damage occurs during the excavations
