Welcome to the St Cleer Parish Projects Group
The group which has delivered over £100,000 of outside funding over the years, with the installation of the Skatepark and restoration of the Dissenters Cemetery and Chapel amongst its projects, is currently working at Higher Tremarcoombe.
The project, using funding from East Cornwall Local Action Group, is to clean out and reveal both the historic pipewell and Toyz Pond. We decided that as part of the environmental work we would try to eradicate the Himalayan Balsam which has spread from here all through the Coombe following the course of the stream which has its source in Toyz Pond.
The project is working in partnership with the Caradon Hill Area Heritage Project who have given invaluable support and expert advice during our planning and bidding process. This support continues as we rely on their help for technical aspects of our work and our project helps to provide match funding for their grant funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund. We would also like to thank the Manor of Rosecraddoc for giving their permission to work on their land and St Cleer and District Commoners who have the grazing rights in the area and who also support our project.
Throughout June we shall we working both Saturday and Sunday, starting on Sat 4th June, in an effort to clear the area of Himalayan Balsam. The seeds of this plant do not remain viable for long so we are hoping that work to pull the plants this year and next will do the job. The work is very light but time consuming. Please wear appropriate clothing and footwear and we will be delighted to see you.
We meet on the open area at Higher Tremarcoombe at 10am, the postcode for satnav users is PL14 5HP, and further information can be obtained from Derris Watson on 01579 347632 email derris.watson@btinternet.com
We have hired a portable toilet (which is a revelation, it has a flushing toilet, washbasin and soap and towels) and provide hot and cold drinks for the comfort and refreshment of volunteers
